Thanks to you, we raised over $770,000 in the month of December, as part of our annual campaign.
The stage is set for historic advances in SMA research over the coming years, and we want to make sure it happens. After quickly besting our original goal of $540,000, we asked you to make history by raising over three-quarters of a million dollars—the most ever raised in our annual campaign.
While we were working to meet this goal, we were also working to sustain our momentum toward our primary goals: a treatment and cure for SMA, and unmatched support and advocacy for everyone affected by SMA.
During the month of December alone…
- Another Cure SMA-funded drug program reached Phase 2 clinical trials, bring the total number of drugs in clinical trials to 7.
- We announced two new $50,000 grants, part of a planned total of $225,000 in new clinical care funding.
- We held our “Hope on the Hill” event and met with several key congressional leaders. As a result, the ABLE Act and the Newborn Screening Saves Lives Reauthorization Act were both passed.
- We opened registration for the 2015 Annual SMA Conference, the largest in the world specifically focused on SMA, and we also announced scholarship opportunities for families who may attend the conference.
These are the kinds of breakthroughs that we can now keep building on, thanks to your support. In the next few weeks, we’ll be announcing the remainder of our clinical care grants, plus up to $700,000 in new basic research funding and $775,000 in new drug discovery funding.
Stay tuned for other announcements on how we’re maximizing your donations for SMA research. Together, we can cure SMA!
