Whether you have SMA, have a loved one with SMA, are a researcher, care provider, industry partner, or are new to the SMA community, SMA Awareness Month is a time to come together to celebrate, honor, reflect, remember, and learn.

The theme of SMA Awareness Month 2024 is ‘Breakthroughs Begin with You.’ It’s an opportunity for you to be in the driver’s seat leading the dialogue and efforts you want to see in the SMA community and beyond.

From local events to national advocacy, there are plenty of ways for you to get involved and help lead the charge. This month, we're especially excited for Spirit Week, which will begin on August 10 through August 17Check out our calendar to see what's planned and be sure to snag some commemorative Cure SMA merchandise!

We're happy to share several exciting features of SMA Awareness Month 2024:

  • Tune In - We invite you to check out our Podcast Recommendations playlist on Spotify. Learn about topics including SMA, disability and more with podcast recommended by community members.
  • Get Social - Share your experiences and connection to the SMA community – Tag @CureSMA and use #SMAawarenessmonth.
  • Light Up - Each year, our community lights candles to remember those who have passed away from SMA, and to honor the diverse people and perspectives that make up our community. Join us on August 10 for the SMA Awareness Month Candle Lighting.
  • Give Back - There has never been a better time to become a monthly donor! New donors who commit to giving at least $25 or more during SMA Awareness Month will receive a special gift as a thank you from Cure SMA.

It is through your support that Cure SMA funds research, care centers, and support programs to make life better for those living with SMA. We hope you'll join us throughout the month of August in fostering conversation, connectedness, and understanding, and most importantly, action amongst and for our SMA community.
