Cure SMA has recently released an updated version of our latest care series booklet, The Musculoskeletal System.
As with all our care series booklets, The Musculoskeletal System was written by medical professionals who specialize in SMA, and reviewed by families to ensure that it is clear and easy to understand, and that it addresses the topics that are most important to families.
The musculoskeletal (MSK) system includes the muscles and bones in the body and the supporting structures like tendons (tissue that connects muscle to bone) and ligaments (connects bone to another bone). The MSK system includes the arms, legs, and spine. The goal of this booklet is to help children, families, and other professionals including nurses, physicians, and therapists understand how spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) can affect the body’s musculoskeletal system.
The Musculoskeletal Systemis the seventh in our series of care series booklets. A complete list can be found on our support & care publications page, from which you can download any or all of the booklets. Printed copies of these booklets are also available at no cost to families affected by SMA, or to anyone who wants to learn more about SMA. Email [email protected] to request these materials.
Our eighth booklet care series booklet, An Introduction to Clinical Trials, will be released later this spring.
