Cure SMA is pleased to announce the creation of the Carolinas Chapter and the Capital Region which will be a satellite Chapter of Greater New York! Located in Raleigh, NC and Albany, NY respectively, the chapters are excited to begin helping families throughout their areas and fundraising to support research to find a treatment and a cure for SMA.
Carolinas Chapter
Jennifer Lee, President, has been crucial in starting this chapter, along with her fellow officers: Rebekka Mastin, Vice-President, Johanna Elsner, Treasurer, and Alana Coates, Secretary.
Each of these families have been affected by spinal muscular atrophy, and are deeply committed to supporting families throughout the North and South Carolinas. Currently, they are working on their first Chapter meeting which will likely be held at Duke in late February or early March, along with a meeting in Columbia, SC. Check out the Cure SMA – Carolinas Chapter site for more details.

Greater New York Chapter – Capital Region
Amy and Dave Cunniff of Duanesburg, NY have also been affected by SMA with the type II diagnosis of their son, Caleb. They have worked at becoming a part of the Greater New York Chapter, but due to distance, have often been unable to attend several activities throughout the year. Then came the idea of doing a satellite chapter to better support the families in the northern New York area as well as start raising funds to help find a treatment and a cure.
The Cunniff and Greater New York Chapter invite SMA families and friends to join us on Monday, March 5, 2012 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Grace Fellowship located at 20 Delatour Road, Watervliet, NY 12189 for their first chapter meeting. Debbie Cuevas, President of the Greater New York Chapter, along with Sarah Rodriguez, Cure SMA National Office, will be in attendance and are thrilled to be providing this opportunity to the SMA community in the northern part of the state.
