Cure SMA is excited to announce that 12 new Panthera pediatric lightweight wheelchairs have been purchased thanks to generous funding from Sweet Baby Zane. These specific chairs are normally a large out-of-pocket expense for many families, as they cost over $6,000 each and are not usually covered by insurance because they are not manufactured in the United States. All 12 wheelchairs were sent to families on the Cure SMA equipment pool waiting list.
In addition to funding these new Panthera wheelchairs, Sweet Baby Zane has funded a total of 569 equipment items to date! This includes fully funding the small and large car beds and EZ On modified vests which allow infants and children with SMA to be transported safely and comfortably in the car. They’ve also helped fund several other items including bath chairs, therapy chairs, and medical strollers.
Keith and Hillary Schmid formed Sweet Baby Zane after the passing of their daughter, Zane Schmid, from SMA in June 2009. Through their annual 5k race, Zane’s Run, the Schmid’s have raised over $250,000 for Cure SMA. Zane’s Run is celebrating its 10th annual event on September 30, 2018 in Malvern, PA.
Thank you to the Schmid family and Sweet Babe Zane’s supporters. Cure SMA is incredibly grateful for your continued support.
Cure SMA Equipment Pool
Through our equipment pool, Cure SMA loans necessary medical equipment free of charge. Since January we have lent out nearly 150 pieces of equipment, thanks to the support of generous donors like the Schmid family.
